Kilimanjaro Expedition Dispatch
February 26, 2014 – Happy Birthday Rose-Eve!!
Hi this is Cindy of the four Kilibabes Plus One. Welcome to Tanzania! It’s a lush green country and it’s been a beautiful day. It is a little bit after noon here and we are getting ready to go climb Mount Kilimanjaro and we are very excited!
We spent the last two days getting acclimatized to Tanzania and it has been great fun! Myself and the other four climbers, with the help of our chief guides Emmanuel and Brian, we went out and saw some museums and did some real power shopping for gifts for our families and friends.
We are looking forward to a successful summit and a safe return! We look forward to letting you know what we are doing over the next few days.
Hi it’s Anne-Marie. I just wanted to say happy birthday to my mom Rose-Eve! We are starting our hike today and hopefully we will have something special for her, so up we go!

Hello friends, ladies and gentleman around the world! This is Eric Marimbo calling from the Lemosho Gate. This is our first day on our 9-day climb of Mount Kilimanjaro. Today we departed from the hotel at around 9 o’clock and drove to the western side of Mount Kilimanjaro. On arrival at the Londorossi gate (where we obtain our permits to climb Kilimanjaro) we took the necessary formalities and after that we drove to the Lemosho gate. On arrival at the gate were met by the happy staff from Berg Adventures by songs and we all danced together with the guides and porters and chefs and then we had a picnic lunch.
Today is a good day! For more than two weeks it has been raining here but today is very dry. We saw a nice view of Kibo and the Shira Plateau from here. So we will start walking around two o’clock and it will take us about 3 hours to get to big tree camp. Today is very good; there are no signs of rain, but who knows! We will be updating you from now until we descend in 9 days.
