Explore the Wonders of Tibet with Berg Adventures – Trip Description

Follow the Friendship Highway from Lhasa, Tibet to Kathmandu, Nepal—an epic journey taking you from the shining city of Lhasa to the vast and rugged countryside of the Tibetan highlands. Picture welcoming people, decorated yaks, colorful temples and baffling architecture all set to the backdrop of wide open plains and the world’s tallest snow-capped mountains; Tibet is a truly a fascinating place filled with unique cultural, natural and spiritual wonders.

Your journey begins and ends in the bustling city of Kathmandu, Nepal. When you arrive, you will have two days to enjoy the culture and history of this diverse city filled with an interesting mix of Hindu and Buddhist traditions. You will have the opportunity to visit the busy Thamel neighborhood offering great food and unique shops, the enchanting Monkey Temple and the former Royal Place located just blocks from you hotel. While in Kathmandu, the Berg Adventures Staff will help you obtain your Tibetan Visas.

After a scenic flight from Kathmandu, you will arrive in Lhasa, the administrative capital of Tibet. Here you will be greeted by your guide and driver who will take you to one of Lhasa’s five-star hotels. You will have two and a half days to explore this iconic city complete with a visit to the grand Potala Palace and to the lively Jokhara Temple.

Once you leave Lhasa, the adventure truly begins as you head out along the Friendship Highway. This rural road will take you through vast farmlands, along the beautiful Yamdrog Tso Lake, over high mountain passes and into lush river valleys. The towns along the way will serve as wonderful places to rest and take in the rich culture of the Tibetan people.

Before you return to Nepal, a detour off the main highway will take you to see Everest Base Camp North, the place where mountaineers live while they attempt to climb Everest via the Northeast side of the mountain. On this day, you will visit Chomolungma (Everest) National Nature Preserve and with any luck you will get to see the famed mountains of Everest, Cho Oyu and Lhoste.
