Kilimanjaro Expedition Dispatch

February 16, 2019 – Team Doing Great at Kosovo – Our Special High Camp

You may have noticed that last night at the Karanga Camp, Yona, our chef, baked a beautiful cake for Jim Brown and family welcoming them to Kilimanjaro. Jim, Jennifer, Ryan and Jackson; 3 generations of Brown’s; friends Jim Allen is here, John and Tracey and Richard are a real special team and they are doing great. We got to Kosovo Camp, 16,000ft above sea level for our lunch today; about 12:45pm; we had hamburgers; believe it or not.

It was hot inside our tent trying to rest and sleep this afternoon. Now we are beginning to have dinner; it looks also delicious, we always start with hot soup of course and it is beginning to snow. We saw some snow this morning on the mountain and now it looks like we are going to have plenty of snow tonight as we sleep snugly in our tents at Kosovo.

It is going to be kind of noise around midnight as the other groups coming up from Barafu start to pass through for their climb through the night to the summit.

We do differently, we sleep until 10 tomorrow morning and we are going to try to climb to Stella Point on the crater rim of Kilimanjaro, and who knows from there, maybe all the way to the very top. We are going to climb up to Kili tomorrow and we are probably staying in our crater camp which is a unique experience.

This is a great team; conditions have been good, we are really happy in Kilimanjaro. Best wishes to everybody!
