Kilimanjaro Expedition Dispatch
June 7, 2017 – On the Way to Moir Camp
The Austin Adventurists woke to a somewhat windy Shira Camp at 12,600ft this morning.
There had been a lot of questions at dinner last night about altitude sickness symptoms, as this elevation is where the headaches and loss of appetite are likely to start. But, no way, all 10 of the climbers looked great at breakfast and the way the porridge, omelettes, pancakes and fruit disappeared, loss of appetite was clearly not a problem.
After breakfast we took the opportunity to get all 88 of our guides, cooks, staff and porters together for some celebration and photo ops. As always the staff were singing and dancing and enjoying the songs of Kilimanjaro - under the musical leadership of our two Kwaya Masters: Chagi boy and Arnold Kimaro.
Eric introduced all the men by name. We know many of them well from our time spent together on the trail and we are learning more about their families and lives each day. After the introductions the team sang "the Eyes of Texas" for the staff.
This morning we start our climb to Moir Camp, and we can see all of Kibo giving us an inspiring view.
Introducing some of Berg Adventures amazing mountain guides:
