Kilimanjaro Expedition Dispatch

June 5, 2017 – On the Way to the Cloud Forest

Well it’s not all about shopping for tanzanite in Tanzania; the Austin Adventurists are on the mountain now.

It’s about 2:00 in the afternoon June 5. We are at the Machame entrance, the most popular trail on Kilimanjaro. We will get ourselves signed in and we will be on our way, walking thru the cloud forest ascending all the way 9,800ft to Machame Camp before day’s end.

The group is excited; the guides are going to have to hold back the pace a little bit. I can tell that we have a group that is very eager to be on their way. We’ve come to this Machame Route instead of our intended Lemosho Route, because there was a big washout in the road over on the west side of the mountain.

This is nice; this is the classic trail on Kilimanjaro, I believe one of the most beautiful trails. We have 2 days before we reach our original Lemosho Traverse, then we are going to follow that over to Barafu Route then on to the crater and then to our intended route.

Now we are enjoying walking as I said through the cloud forest, trying to get some photos out as we can in the coming days. But I got 10 people who are very excited people eager to have the city and the travelling behind them and be on their way in the ascent of Kilimanjaro. It is going to be a great 9 days; stick with us, we will be sending out dispatches when we can and getting photos of these people climbing and enjoying the people of Kilimanjaro. That’s what we are here for!
