August 16, 2012 – Dancing Our Way Up Kilimanjaro: Part I
We arrived at the Forest Camp at 9,200ft. on Tuesday evening at 6:30. Just before we got to the level where the camp was, we heard choir voices began, then they started to get louder and then we heard singing. As our crew walked into the camp they received what it is going to become a very typical welcome from our staff: song, dance, a great spirit in the mountains after their first half day on the mountain arriving at the Forest Camp.
It was Teresa and Ross’s first night ever to camp anywhere anyhow and most of the rest of the crew will tell you that they hadn’t done much camping in a long long time. We had a great night that night, and on Wednesday we moved all the way to Shira at 11,500ft.
Now I am calling you from the Moir Camp, that’s right, the group has had the end of their third day on the mountain. They walked into their camp here at 13, 600ft., misty clouds are swirling about, they received the same warm musical welcome from the crew and we are getting ready to settle down for what is going to be a very special night because today is Teresa’s birthday on Kilimanjaro, so we are going to celebrate her birthday.
I will continue to send you updates daily and we have a lot of good images on the way of our life on the mountain, the natural beauty around, the smile on their faces of this team from Canada and from Belgium and this amazing crew.
