Kilimanjaro Expedition Dispatch
August 13, 2012 – Views of Kilimanjaro, A Good Omen For The Beginning Of A Trip
It is not that common to see Kilimanjaro from the farms and villages of the region - normally the mountain is shrouded in clouds from below but last night it was beautiful from the highway. The team has landed yesterday just after dark - the sun sets fast here at 3 degrees south of the equator. But the snows of Kilimanjaro were shining above them in the starlight.
It was a stimulating first day in Arusha; the team is looking forward to returning to the shopping and markets that we see in the city… not to mention the comfort of our hotel before we go on our wildlife safari.
Luc and Annick will be leaving tomorrow with a BAI cultural tour guide Peter and safari driver Camilus for a tour of different cultures of Northern Tanzania while the rest of the team is climbing Kilimanjaro. Then they will fly to Zanzibar! We will all meet back here in Arusha on Aug 22nd so that we can begin our wildlife safari together.
We will miss Luc and Annick and we will look forward to hearing about their adventures when we are reunited…
But first we must climb and mountain… it is exciting to be here.
