Kilimanjaro Expedition Dispatch
March 4, 2008 – Fun at Moir Camp
Today is day 3 for this BBBS team. Talking with John Stewart, who is the organizer for BBBS Kilimanjaro and who has climbed this mountain before, and he agrees that this team is strong and is doing extremely well. Appetites are big and there are no real signs of AMS (Acute Mountain Sickness), which is a good sign.
It rained all night last night at Shira Camp, with thunder and lightening all around us. We were very cozy and nestled in our tents. This morning at breakfast we all talked about our vivid high altitude dreams and hopes of seeing all of Kilimanjaro today. We didn’t get a chance to see all of it today but we caught glimpses through the clouds.
After breakfast we were formally introduced to our 63 staff members and they sang us out of camp. We made our way to Moir Hut Camp at 13,600 ft. Along the way we saw lava rocks and rock bands. One even looked like a lion’s face.
We just got into our tents and we were met with another rain storm at camp. Not too worry, all of the team is keeping dry and warm. We are having lots of laughter and fun. We also have great team support which keeps us going on the harder, steeper hills.
Everyone sends love to their family and friends. I am confident that this team will get to the summit together if they keep this energy and enthusiasm they have climbed with so far.
If the rain stops at Moir Camp today a few of us are going to play a game of Hacky Sack and Trevor is offering some salsa lessons.
I will report again tomorrow from Lava Tower. Talk to you then!
