Kilimanjaro Expedition Dispatch
March 3, 2008 – Team Reaches Shira Camp
Hello this is Tracy calling you from Shira Camp. I am now looking at Kilimanjaro from the camp; I can’t see the top at the moment. We haven’t seen it yet because it has been covered in cloud since we started climbing. The skies are starting to open up though. The BBBS team members, who haven’t seen Kilimanjaro since they landed, are anticipating the clouds will open up this evening so they get their first look at the goal for the rest of the week.
Last night after the camp quieted down, the Calibus monkeys moved in and had a little party. We could hear them walking all around. It was quite the funny experience!
After a restful sleep we woke as the sun was shining. After hot tea biscuits and a wonderful breakfast we started to make our way up and down the hills of the Moorlands. As we made our way down to camp on the Shira Plateau it felt that we were going down to ground level except for the fact that we were actually at 11,425 ft!
Everyone is feeling great and looking good. We have a very energetic, close group. We all seem to be climbing together which makes for fun conversation!
We are all looking forward to continuing our climb tomorrow, stay tuned!
