Why climb with Berg Adventures

Kilimanjaro Expedition Dispatch

February 2, 2009 – Dwight and Richard Reach the Summit!

Hello, it’s Dwight and Richard checking in. It’s now day 7 on Kilimanjaro. After a 5 hour hike we are now at the 5,700m/18,700 ft mark in the Crater Camp.

The climb to Stella Point on the crater rim was the toughest 3 ½ hours of the entire trip. It was just one foot in front of the other. So it felt really good to be greeted by the camp team singing their songs of welcome.

We then carried on to Uhuru Peak which is the summit. We had a spectacular view of what is left of the glaciers on Kilimanjaro. The crater itself is much larger than we expected and there are significantly less glaciers remaining than we have seen in pictures. We posed for photos with all three of our flags and then carried on back to camp.

On our way back to camp we had a nice lunch and then went over to touch one of the remaining glaciers.

This was an awesome experience for us.
