Kilimanjaro Expedition Dispatch
February 1, 2009 – Summit Is Not Too Far Away Now!
Hi, it’s Dwight and Richard checking in again from Kilimanjaro. It’s day 6 for us. Today we spend 3 hours and 45 minutes hiking. We are now at 4,500m at Kossovo Camp. We started with a singing send off by the camp team which was watched by all of the other hikers.
Almost the entire hike to our lunch stop at Barafu Hut was uphill. Both of us thanked our guide, Julius, for arranging it so we did not camp there. It’s just way too busy and there were groups ascending and descending, people coming and going, and just way too much activity. After a nice hamburger and salad lunch, we pushed on to our own private spot where is another 200m higher and in a much nicer location.
We can see the crater rim ahead and it is calling us. Both of us feel healthy and ready for the challenge ahead.
