Why climb with Berg Adventures

Kilimanjaro Expedition Dispatch

March 3, 2008 – Team Visits Linde School and Arrives at the Park Gates

Children welcoming our team to their school

We woke today Monday March 3rd in the Arusha hotel knowing this was our day to finally go to the mountain.

It was a busy day in our hotel. Bags were packed, we loaded them onto the land cruisers and we began our drive out of Arusha. We didn’t go far before we made a planned stop at the Linde primary school for orphans; which Berg Adventures has been supporting for a number of years now.

Angel at the Linde SchoolAngel very proudly watched as our group got out with radiant smiles when they saw the children in their uniforms singing a welcome song to greet us to the Linde School. Berg Adventures is really special to these children for the support we have given them over the years. They have built a new school, and there are far more students now then there were in previous years, in addition to a larger teaching staff. Things are really looking good for the Linde School.

It was a great visit. We told the children we will be attempting to stand on the top of Uhuru Peak on March 10th, and to pray for us and give us best wishes. We also told them we would send a message back to let them know how we did in our attempt to climb ‘Freedom Peak”; Uhuru Peak, the very top of their country Tanzania; to the top of the continent of Africa.

We are moving out towards the park gate today. We will need to sign in and have the privilege to meet all of our porters. Logistically it’s very complicated with all of the gear that needs to be organized and ready to move up the mountain. I can see that the group is very fascinated and a bit bewildered by the whole production, but still very excited to be underway and finally to be walking into Kilimanjaro National Park. They are going to begin their attempt over the next nine days to reach the top of Africa.

Wish us well and please stay tuned daily for our reports. The children learning in their new classroom
