Kilimanjaro Expedition Dispatch
March 1, 2008 – Big Brothers Big Sisters 2008 Team Arrives in Arusha
At 8:45 pm on March 1, the members of the Berg Adventures 2008 Kilimanjaro
Climb for Kids were on the flight which arrived right
on time. The team members representing the BBBS chapters are from Ontario
and Alberta. We have been planning and dreaming about this trip and what
we can do for the people back home. 
The statement we can make and the fun
and adventure we can represent by Big Brothers Big Sisters climbing the
highest mountain of Africa. We have been dreaming about this for months
and we are finally under way.
The Alberta guys flew from Calgary to Minneapolis via Amsterdam to Kilimanjaro. The chapter who flew from Toronto to Amsterdam also experienced a very long flight. It turns out the KLM flight which arrived in Amsterdam from Toronto had quite a rough landing at Amsterdam airport do to high winds, and they had a very tight connection departing for Kilimanjaro International Airport. When they finally stepped off of the plane and came through customs at Kilimanjaro, we could see they were a weary looking crowd - but soon the awareness that they had finally arrived in Africa was dawning on them. Even though it was late at night, by the time they arrived in Arusha, you could see the excitement dawning on the teams faces.
John Stewart has been instrumental in putting this team together. John
is returning to Kilimanjaro and our Berg 
Adventures Kilimanjaro Program.
He has been absent since February 2004, when he came with the Canadian
ALS. That also was a great adventure. He was really happy to see Nicholas,
Angel and the entire Berg Adventure Team that he had missed since he left
Arusha four years ago.
The BBBS team members, John and I sat around anticipating the trip having Arusha burgers. The hamburgers were served to us at our hotel in Arusha. For the rest of the evening we just unwound and then went to bed.
Well call and report to you how our trip to begin our climb to start March 3. For no know that the team is doing well and happy to be together.
