Mount Aratat & the Wonders of Turkey Expedition Dispatch
September 12, 2019 – On the Trail at Mount Ararat
After breakfast at 10am we left the hotel in Doğubeyazit and drove about 7 km on a dirt road that took us to the trail head to Mount Ararat where we unloaded and began our hike.
It was great to be back on the trail again with Rob and Chuck. We have climbed high mountains together all over the world. Mount Ararat has been a dream of ours.
Our expedition duffel bags were taken up the mountain by pack animals and we will see them again at our base camp; Camp I or Green Camp at 10,850ft/ 3,340m.
Our amigos team was joined here on Ararat by the same guides who climbed Ararat with Berg Adventures in 2012 and 2013. This will be our 5th Berg Adventures expedition to Ararat.
The seasons are changing. Kids went back to school last week and the Shepard’s camps that we passed are being taken down.
Upon arrival we were welcomed into the dining tent that Jamal and Mehmet had prepared. Snacks were waiting on the table to enjoy with tea.
Our cozy tents, our mattresses and sleeping bags felt great when we moved in to get warm and organized.
Later a dinner of fresh grilled fish, chicken, beef were served with vegetables, rice and hot chilies.
Everyone was hungry which is a sign of good acclimatization. Rob and Chuck are doing great!
