Kilimanjaro Expedition Dispatch
June 10, 2017 – High Camp
It’s Saturday afternoon and we are at High Camp on Kilimanjaro at 16,000ft above sea level, on the ridge that leads towards Stella point and the crater rim, we are going to try to go there tomorrow. The entire team, all 10 Austin Adventurist, are all doing well. It is challenging being up here, we have your ups and downs, the body is really pressed to be here; oxygen saturation is low and it is physical challenging walking on the trails higher and higher.
There are smiles and conversation with great spirits all around. Now we have to settle down, enjoy this amazing view, we are looking straight across to the east at the jagged spires of the Peak Mawenzi and rising above is the snow on Kibo the main summit of Kilimanjaro that we are going to climb tomorrow. We can see the trail that starts up towards Stella point, it’s going to take us hours and hours to climb up there so we are going to settle down and rest.
The staff is making great food and caring for everybody, always bringing water bottle drinks, we are going to take care of one another in the demanding environment and hopefully we are going to climb up all the way to the crater rim tomorrow.
