Vicious and Delicious Kilimanjaro Climb and Wildlife Safari Dispatch
October 3, 2013 – Climbing the Barranco Wall through the Mist
It’s Thursday the 3rd of October and I am calling you from the top of the Barranco Wall, 13,780 feet above sea level. This will be our first audio dispatch of the trip, our fifth day on Kilimanjaro. I am happy to report the entire Vicious and Delicious team is doing just great with their acclimatization and they are having loads of fun! Appetites are good and appreciation for the mountain and especially for our staff is really high.
You can probably see from the photos that yesterday, the 2nd of October, was a very rainy day at our Barranco Camp. We had that sunshine in the morning and then we settled in for a cozy day. This morning we had the same clear skies but now we have climbed up to the top of the Barranco Wall in the mist. (photos coming soon…)
Our slow ascent rate on this trip is really paying off. We slept for three nights at Barranco Camp, 13,000 feet. Now we are going to be moving for a pretty long but enjoyable day of walking. We love to climb the Barranco Wall! We will be moving over to Karanga Camp at the same elevation we have been sleeping at.
Stay tuned tomorrow as we are going to be climbing much higher, as we work our way to the crater of Kilimanjaro and hopeful Uhuru Peak. We will keep sending photos and messages. I am going to sign off for now from Vicious and Delicious on Kilimanjaro.
