Why climb with Berg Adventures

Kilimanjaro Expedition Dispatch

August 19, 2012 – Great Spirits and Great Food at Our High Camp

It is 6:30 am and we are getting ready to climb. Lynne, Teresa and Lynne.

It is 6:30 am and we are getting ready to climb. Lynne, Teresa and Lynne.

It is the 19th of August and we are here in our special high camp at 16,000 feet above sea level, high on Kilimanjaro. I call this our high camp not because it is the highest place we sleep, that will be tomorrow night inside the crater of Kilimanjaro at 18, 800 feet above sea level. But this is a real high camp, high up in the shoulder of the high mountain, beneath the big glaciers and it will be from here that we will stage our summit attempt tomorrow.

All 16 members of this team are doing great. Certainly the physical and mental demands of this long climb have shown on everyone but everyone has been tough and come together. The team spirit is great and of course the support from all the Berg Adventures staff is phenomenal. We did really well. As a matter of fact I might as well tell you what it was served for us at lunch at 15, 100 feet today. We had, for the first course for lunch, ginger carrot soup and grilled cheese sandwiches. These were follow with beef steak and with a fresh salad with mustard vinaigrette, and for dessert we had butter cookies and watermelon. So life is not extremely tough up here. People are really doing amazing and everyone home who is watching should know we have a great camp for tomorrow and the next day to have success to climb to the roof of Africa.
