The Gopal Family Kilimanjaro Climb and Safari Dispatch

August 12, 2012 – We Have Arrived At Moir Camp

Hi this is a Herman, Berg Adventures Guide calling from Kilimanjaro. I am here with the Gopal family. Everything is great; we are now at the Moir Camp. We had a great day, they really enjoyed their lunch. We had lunch at the place known as Scott Fischer Camp, just above the Shira Plateau.

Our camp is beneath the Northern Ice fields of Kilimanjaro. This is a remote and beautiful area. From here you can easily cross over a ridge to the North Side of Kilimanjaro, but we will be continuing east and south, which we feel will take us to the most beautiful parts of the mountain.

We are going to rest here at 13,500ft (4114m) and tomorrow we will move up to Lava Tower at 15,090ft (4600m). Tomorrow will be a half day. We will have our lunch at Lava Tower camp, where we will sleep. The team is tired, but they are getting stronger by the day and we feel that rest tonight and a shorter day to Lava Tower tomorrow will be just what they all need.
