The Gopal Family Kilimanjaro Climb and Safari Dispatch

August 11, 2012 – Getting Into a Routine

This is the Gopal family. The day started quite early, some of us were up before 6:30 but at 6:30 we were woken up by with a hot tea in bed. We woke up and got some hot water to wash, got hot breakfast, packed up our stuff pretty quickly. The porters took the camp down and left. Of course we just walked up and didn’t have to worry about the tents or anything else.

We walked through the rest of the rain forest and as we were coming out of the rain forest transition into an alpine meadow, they had set up, in a clearing, a lunch for us at a table. We were sitting there at table and chairs, eating a hot lunch. It was incredible, very decadent.

Then we started for the rest of the day. After lunch we were on our way up. Now we are about an hour away from our Camp II, which is Shira Camp. We will be there about 4 or 4:30 or so. It has been an amazing two days, everyone is keeping up and everything is very organized. In the next few days there are going to be more dispatches. Everyone is really excited about getting to the summit of Kilimanjaro.
