Kilimanjaro Expedition Dispatch

December 9, 2011 – The Team Travels to the Mountain

This morning the team got up early, ate breakfast and packed into the Land Crusier to travel to the Lemosho Gates. The team checked in with the park wardens at the National Park gates and then they had lunch at the trailhead. Before hitting the trail, the guides and porters lead the group in song and dance to get everyone warmed up for the challenge ahead.

Tonight the group sleeps at Big Tree Camp and tomorrow they will cross the beautiful and remote Shira Ridge.

The vehicle is packed and ready to go.

The climb begins in thick rainforest. Our first camp is amongst towering trees, hence the name Big Tree Camp.
