Kilimanjaro Expedition Dispatches
Berg Adventures Kilimanjaro Climb and Safari
Pofu Route, February 12-28, 2010
Steve Slaughter is a decorated veteran of many Berg Adventures climbs. This spring Steve will be attempting to reach the summit of Mount Everest, something that has been a goal of his for years. Steve’s final training climb before departing for Nepal to climb to the top of the world will be to join Berg Adventures Tanzania staff for a climb of the challenging and remote Pofu Route on Kilimanjaro’s forgotten north side. Steve will be accompanied by his daughter Lauren, who was recently graduated from Boston College.
On February 15th, they begin their trek at the forested Umbwe Gate and continue along the Pofu Route, which was specially created by Berg Adventures to provide a very unique and serene route up the mountain. Before their planned summit, Steve and Lauren will spend the night camping at our Scientific Camp in the Kilimanjaro crater, at an elevation of 5,700m/18,700ft. Stay tuned to their daily experiences as they traverse this wild and unspoiled route.
After the climb, their adventure continues as they head out on an African safari and to experience a luxurious stay at the legendary and unparalleled Tarangire Treetops Lodge.
Join Steve and Lauren here as they report on their progress and their adventures on the mountain each day.
