Febuary 19, 2010 — Ups and Downs on the Way to Pofu Camp

Hi, this is Lauren. Day three was a little rough for me but after a good 13 hours in the tent, I was feeling a lot better.

Yesterday morning we began on our way to Moir Camp. We descended from 4600m/15,100ft to 4100m/13,450ft. We had a great walk. Most of it was downhill and it only took about three hours. When we got to the camp, everyone was singing to welcome us, which was very nice. The weather was beautiful during the hike and then we had about three hours of just relaxing and sitting out in the sun to let everything dry out.

Some weather came in after we enjoyed our lunch so we retreated back into the tent from the rain, sleet, and snow. Julius says it’s because of the new moon.

When it was time for dinner, dad was too lazy to get up because he was warm and dry in his tent, so he didn’t come to dinner with me. But it was really delicious. We had mashed potatoes and I got to rub it in his face when we finished because he didn’t get any. We both slept well and read our books. It’s really funny listening to dad laugh to himself like he does when he watches Two and a Half Men.

Now we’re at Pofu camp at 3900m/12,800ft. It was mostly up and down walking to get here and at one point we were up at 4700m/15,400ft which is a new record for me. It made me a little nauseous and dizzy but after a few hours, we made it to Pofu Camp and I immediately went into the tent and went to sleep.

I’m feeling good now, and we just enjoyed our lunch here and are getting ready for a big day tomorrow.

Oh, daddy and I wanted to say that we love mommy and Lee and we’re enjoying all the things that Gramma and Grand-dad got us for Christmas. We love you all and we look forward to making the summit in two days!
