Kilimanjaro Expedition Dispatch
January 16, 2010 – Karanga Valley and the Barranco Wall
Hi, it’s Jay and Jocelyn checking in with everyone. We left Lava Tower Camp bright and early this morning and made it up to Karanga camp, at 4235m/13,900ft. We trekked through some beautiful terrain and we climbed the Barranco Wall today. It was very intimidating, but with our expert leader Julius showing us the way, it wasn’t nearly as hard as it looked. We got some amazing pictures from up there.
After that we went back down through the Karanga Valley, which is so far one of my favourite places on the trip. It was beautiful, kind of like being on the moon or something. I enjoyed that very much.
We got to Karanga camp around 2pm and Jay has pretty much been sleeping but I’ve been able to eat a bit and enjoying the company of Julius.
We’re having a good time and missing everyone. Talk to you soon.
