Kilimanjaro Expedition Dispatch
March 8, 2008 – Summit Success!
Hello this Tracy calling. It’s March 8, 2009 at 3:30 p.m. and I’m calling you from the summit of Kilimanjaro!
Our team has made it up here, as I anticipated, as a group. We made it up arm in arm all the way to Uhuru Peak at 19,339 ft/ 5,894 m. Right now we are taking some fantastic photos.
The weather was absolutely on our side today. We slept all night last night listening to strong winds. When we woke up the wind was still blowing until the sun came out. We had a beautiful sunrise and we could see Mawenzi with snow all over it.
We made it up to Stella Point in record time and had lunch up there. We sat around for a half an hour or so and then went towards Uhuru Peak.
Nobody else is up here so it’s really great! As soon as we are down with the photos we are going to slowly make our way down and sleep in the crater this evening.
Stay tuned as I will check in again when we start our decent back down.
