Kilimanjaro Expedition Dispatch

September 18, 2008 – The Team Has Arrived – Day Hike Up Mt. Meru

Hello to all of our friends back in Canada! This is Howard calling on behalf of the entire team. This morning Berg Adventures had an orientation session with us. We met our head guide and an additional 5 to 6 guides, almost one guide per hiker. They are very experienced and some of them have been up the mountain 400 times. We feel we are in very good hands. After the orientation we went for a very nice hike up Mt. Meru. It was very interesting, about 6 hours to the waterfall. We hiked about 6 miles and elevation gain of about 1200 feet. We met some of the local people and it is mostly an agricultural area. It was a great time and we all felt it was very worthwhile.
