Kilimanjaro Expedition Dispatch
August 9, 2008 – Summit Success!
This is Michelle here; we did it!
It was a long day but it was beautiful, walking at night and the stars were brighter than we had ever seen, then we came up to Gillman point and up to Uhuru peak. Now we are on our way back down, scree skiing, having a great time.
I definitely would not have been able to have done this without Ian and both of our 2 guides; Julius and Rodrick and also the entire team, all the porters and our crew. Everyone has been really supportive.
Definitely the best experience of my life, although the hardest!
Another update!
Jambo! This is Ian and Michelle with the last dispatch from Kili. Today it was a long but rewarding day after summiting Uhuru Peak. We head down to Kibo camp where a crew met us with a celebratory pineapple juice and, of course, singing.
We had lunch at Kibo, and then we hiked to our camp for tonight, Horombo. Tomorrow we plan to hike down to Marangu gate where we will get our certificates for climbing Kili. This whole experience has been very rewarding, we learned and saw a lot, the glaciers on top of Kili are beautiful.
We sent down our camera today so hopefully some of our pictures will be posted soon. We can’t wait to share our experiences when we get home with everyone.
