Kilimanjaro Expedition Dispatch

June 24, 2008 – The Sun is Shining at Shira Plateau!

This is John Bank and we are approaching the Shira Plateau on Tuesday the 24th. It’s been a very rainy, muddy climb through the rain forest to the Machame Camp (2980m). The weather is now clearing up, the sun is out and it’s beautiful. We have gone through the rain forest and now we are at the moorland and everyone is holding up fine.

Hi this is Ellyn. One of the most interesting and colorful aspects of this trip are our happy porters. Seeing them carrying our loads on their heads makes you feel like you are on a pilgrimage as we all ascend up the hill. The Swahili language is so much fun (lost transmission).
