Kilimanjaro Expedition Dispatch

February 12, 2019 – Arriving at Shira Camp

Everything is going great. I am calling you from our second day on Kilimanjaro. First full day. We are almost at Shira Camp which is 3,500 meters above sea level.

Yesterday we had a long day driving out from Arusha, because we went to the west side of the mountain. The west side of Kilimanjaro gave us a start we wanted to do of this wonderful traverse.

We slept last night at the Big tree Camp; we took people oxygen saturation this morning and amazing, everybody was in the nineties per cent, even in the high 90%; which is pretty good for people from Edmonton and Vancouver coming directly to Kilimanjaro.

We have long ways to go but we started at the park yesterday a team of about 70 to 75 total including the Canadians and all the Tanzanians. Guides, staff, porters, the whole Berg Adventures crew that you are so familiar from years on the mountain, smiley faces, strong men, welcoming man, great mountaineers.

We are just on the way, people are doing great, enjoying and if anything it is a little bit too hot right now but the clouds are coming as we arrive at Shira Camp and I know it will be cozy as we get on our sleeping bag for the second night sleeping on the mountain.
