Climb the most remote of the Seven Summits with Berg Adventures
Carstensz Pyramid Expedition Dispatches
March 12, 2014 – The Team begins their Trek out of the Jungle
Hello, this is Brent calling from the Carstensz trip. We had a successful summit yesterday with everyone summiting!
Today everybody got up a little tired. We left camp at about 9:15 AM and the first thing outta camp you have to gain about 800 feet over the New Zealand pass. It was rainy and muddy going over the pass this morning. It’s actually been very nice weather since we haven’t had any rain thus far. We then dropped down to the pass and everyone was moving great. Then we made it to our Camp 4 and then moved about two hours past that to a great camp they call River Camp. It is called that because it is right on the River Bank. Then everyone got settled into camp and it was all great!
It took us five days to get to base camp and we have to get out in four so we have to make up our time. So tomorrow looks like it is going to be a long day, we are going to try and make it all the way to our second night’s camp so we are going to pull the grind. It will be probably about a ten hour day where today was only seven hours.
But we have a team in great spirits, everyone is happy and satisfied with their climb! It was not what they expected but everyone summited and you can’t ask for more!
The only speed bump was the porters fight this morning about carrying loads and that type of shenanigans. But I guess that is just part of the program here. Medly and Poxy our guides were excellent with getting things moving. We were able to leave camp at 9:15 and make it to our next camp!
There are no mosquitos and no rain to speak of. The Gods are smiling on us! Well that’s it for now on the Carstensz Pyramid expedition.
