Sutterlin “Spinal Health International – Klimb 4 Kidz” Kilimanjaro Climb and Safari Dispatch
August 28, 2013 – African Family Vacation, Photo Recap of Our First Two Days on the Mountain
It’s day three of the African Family Vacation with the Sutterlin’s and we have reached the Karanga Camp. This will be our second night sleeping at approximately 13,000 feet above sea level. It’s beautiful; I am looking at a floor of clouds below us and the glaciers of Kilimanjaro are shinning above us. The team has been great and they have been having a great time with our staff, as you can tell! We are going to take the opportunity today to post some pictures from the first two days of African Family Vacation and you will see what a great time it has been.
It wasn’t only a few moments after we arrived at the entrance to the park that the Berg Adventures staff started referring to Colleen as “Mama Africa” and the name has stuck. A little further along the trail they learned that Chet was a doctor and they mentioned that “Mganga” is the Swahili word for doctor and that stuck as well. Of course it was only a little bit later that Emmanuel explained to us that these days “Mganga” in Swahili only refers to “witch doctors”. Chet wears that name proudly and so our witch doctor “Papa Chet Mganga” is with us. The guys also just began calling Autumn “African Princess” and Landon “African Prince” so it really feels like our African Family Vacation is falling right into place!
