August 14, 2013 – Phenomenal First Few Days in Arusha

Hello, this is Josh Lannon, Jason Funk and Eric here on the Shira Ridge after we just had lunch. We are having a fantastic time and it’s been a fantastic trip!

What we are looking forward to is having Eric teach us how to dance; he is a fantastic dancer and we are looking forward to it!

Message from Ayaaz

Hello this is the Janmohamed family; Salma, Alyssa, Zeanna and Ayaaz. I want to let you guys know we’re having an awesome time!

The Berg Adventures crew picked us up from the Mt. Meru Hotel and we had a really good orientation; they told us everything about what we needed to pack, how we are going to go and the entire trip itself. They told us they were going to offer us a tour of Arusha which is really great because I am from Arusha and we got a chance to see my old school and things I remember from the past. It was really good to get another view at that. We ended up going to a restaurant and ate some African food, Ugali, and it was really good.

Then we started our journey to the mountain in the morning and we signed in at the gates and then we started walking. We walked a fair amount and the staff have been just phenomenal, there are over 50 people working with us. We have the head dude and he is known as Colonel Emmanuel. We have just had phenomenal guides and I have to tell you that the chef has been just phenomenal; the dinners and tea breaks we’ve had are just great!

Now we have climbed just over 11 thousand feet.
