Kilimanjaro Expedition Dispatch
January 27, 2012 – Scaling the Barranco Wall to Reach Karanga Camp
Hi this is the dispatch from Karanga Camp, Day 5 on Kilimanjaro. Today we crossed the great Barranco Wall on the south side of Kilimanjaro. We hiked and scrambled for 7 hours before arriving at Karanga Hut. It was a very long day filled with many ascents and descents. We crossed many river systems before reaching our campsite. There are a few groups here including one from New Zealand and one from Germany. With any luck, we will reach the summit of Kilimanjaro the day after tomorrow and we are hoping the good weather holds.
Today for lunch we had potato croquettes, leek soup, vegetable pockets and fresh pineapple. Tonight for supper we had coconut rice, pork chops, mixed vegetables, minestrone soup and cupcakes with chocolate sauce. Berg knows how to take care of their climbing clients!
Have a great day and we will talk to you all soon. More to come from Tim, Rafael, Terri and our great guides Julius and Emmanuel. Bye for now!
