Keg Spirit Foundation Kilimanjaro Expedition Dispatch
August 15, 2010 – The Whole Team Stands On the Summit of Kilimanjaro!
This morning all ten members of the Keg Spirit Foundation team and the Berg Adventures support staff and guides stepped onto the very top of Mount Kilimanjaro and stood by the sign that marks the rooftop of Africa, Uhuru Peak. It was quite a crew.
It hasn't been easy getting to the top. We climbed through the morning, having spent a cold night inside the crater. When we stepped up to the summit sign, David, who has always had that inner strength that comes out in the toughest moments, turned and smiled, pulled out his iPod, and said "It's time to get the Led out!" and proceeded to play Led Zeppelin tunes from the top of Africa. It was a really wonderful time. We're celebrating because of our accomplishments, but we know we still have a long way to descend to get off of this mountain.
The team has revelled in the fellowship with all the Tanzanian staff, and this will continue over the next couple of days as we go down from the mountain. Also, we'll be staying in Tanzania for safari, so stay tuned for that!
