Kilimanjaro Expedition Dispatch

July 30, 2010 – Hike to Outward Bound School Hut

On the way to Outward Bound School Hut where we'll rest up before heading for the summit at midnight.

This is Andrea on day five of my Kilimanjaro climb with Elizabeth.

Yesterday we did a short but steep hike up to the most beautiful campsite I have ever seen at the Outward Bound School Hut at 4,750m/15,580ft. When we got there, we had some time to talk to some of the other travellers and then to take another short hike up to higher altitude to work on our acclimatization. We were both feeling a little short of breath doing things that normally wouldn't make us so tired, a sure sign that we are definitely at a higher altitude.

The night sky was clear and I've never seen so many stars. We had a great night's sleep so all is well.

Today we're doing about a five-hour climb and then we're preparing to summit today at midnight! Very exciting!!!
