Kilimanjaro Expedition Dispatch
March 16, 2008 – Team Heads Back to Canada
Hello ! It’s March 16, 2009 and this is Tracy calling from the Serengeti airstrip. Jacob and I have just currently waved off Greg, Bev, Julia, Hannah and Karen. They are flying off to end their safari journey and begin their trip home.
Last night we all had dinner together and were surprised once again with songs, dancing and another celebratory Kilimanjaro cake from the Serengeti Sopa staff and general manager. It was a really great way to end such a fantastic trip.
This morning we woke up early in hopes to see a cheetah which is the only one of the big five animals we haven’t seen yet. Unfortunately, we didn’t get a chance to see it but we did drive through the migration of thousands and thousands of zebras and wildebeest, plus two running hippos.
Most of the BBBS team members said they would be back to climb Kilimanjaro and take part in a wildlife safari with us again. If you’ve never been to Tanzania, you should come because it will capture your heart and fill it with memories; whether it’s the people, the culture, the landscape or the animals. Once you have experienced it here you will want to come back.
I know that this Berg Adventures BBBS 2009 East African adventure has brought success not only through summiting and wildlife viewing but awareness and donations have been made to BBBS in Canada as well as in addition to Africa at the Linde School in Arusha, along with employment and support to Tanzanians and the whole economy.
I am pleased to have led this strong good hearted team and look forward to many adventures with them in the future. Thank you to all who have supported and followed the dispatches with their families and friends. Until next time, I’m signing off from Africa.
Stay tuned in tomorrow as I will be sending some photos from this amazing adventure!
