Kilimanjaro Expedition Dispatch

January 28, 2009 – Richard and Dwight Arrive and Are Climbing Up Kili

Hello this is Richard Alessio. Yesterday we started our expedition and we’ve been treated extremely well. The guys are looking after us. Dwight and I are both very impressed so far. We are getting fed way too much! The meals have been fantastic. We are now coming onto the Shira 1 Camp. Bye for now!

This is Dwight Nixon checking in as well. We are just about settling into the Shira 1 Camp and are having a really good time. For anyone who hasn’t done this before, you’ve got to make sure you do the Mt. Meru pre-hike walk through the villages and up to the waterfall. We had just a beautiful time going through the villages and seeing how the locals live. Everyone was practicing their English on us, which was a lot of fun! We’ve seen beautiful country here through the different eco-systems up to the Moorlands. We are hearing tons of birds and even saw monkeys yesterday. We also saw where the elephants have walked through. We haven’t seen any elephants yet but we are on the lookout. We’ll talk to you again in a few days!
