September 25, 2008 – Team Summits Kilimanjaro!

Night falls on the team as they watch the sunset from the summit of Kilimanjaro
It is 6:30 in the evening, this is Wally Berg and I’m calling you from the summit of Kilimanjaro, the rooftop of Africa. I’m watching the sunset over Africa and it’s the most aspiring and beautiful sight that I could imagine anyone could ever see in their life.
With me are all 7 team members of the Berg Adventures Lemosho climb and 9 of our dedicated Tanzanian guides and staff members. I am watching as the last minute photos and videos are being taken in this twilight and I’m looking at a very proud group.
About 4:30 this afternoon the group rested at Stella Point where the crew set up a lunch and they were talking about whether they should go over the top and then down to BAI Crater Camp or if they should go to sleep and try to summit tomorrow morning. The team was very excited to get to the summit so they decided to put their backpacks on and go on hand in hand to take those last steps up to the summit of Uhuru Peak. I can tell you that everyone is glad they did that.
I have met up with this team a couple times during this trip and every time I was inspired. A lot of friendships have been formed and I am really proud of these Canadians and Tanzanians who did such a fine job at reaching the rooftop of Africa.
We are signing off for now and the crew will now have a good night’s sleep. We will let you know how the trip off the mountain goes. Bye for now!
