September 22, 2008 – Everyone is Well and on Their Way to Lava Tower
Hi, this is Anne! We were at the Shira Plateau yesterday and woke up to fresh snow which was kind of interesting. Then we made our way up to the Moir Hut and slept there. It was right beside a moraine which was created by the glaciers.
We are all doing very well and are now heading up to the Lava Tower. We can see the trail; it looks a little daunting but we will get there. The plant life along the way has been really awesome! Everyone is stopping to take a lot of pictures. We are in the alpine desert and are at about 4240 meters (lost transmission)

The alpine desert of Kili, not the best conditions for flowers, however, mosses, lichens and everlasting flowers can flourish here.

The team will hike up the trail to Lava Tower which will help with their acclimatization.
