Kilimanjaro Expedition Dispatch

September 17, 2008 – Hundreds of Animals Greet Dave and Ginny

Hi everyone! Ginny and I are loving being back together again! We went into the Ngorongoro Crater this morning, one of the best game viewing areas in all of Africa, concentrated with thousands of cape buffalo, wildebeest, zebras and gazelles. We also had good viewing of the somewhat unusual black mane lions and a couple of big male elephants within about ten feet of our vehicle.

We are looking forward to taking off to the Serengeti tomorrow. Tarzan and his mate should have it so good!

Love to all, Dave and Ginny

Cape Buffalos

Cape Buffalos can weight anywhere from 500-700 kgs and carry heavy horns upon their head. They are successful grazers and generally live in swamps, grasslands and forests.

African elephants

African elephants are larger than their cousins in Asia and have a more of a sloping back and larger ears. Males can weigh up to 6800 kg while females can weigh up to 3636 kg. It is quite a sight to see one up close in their natural habitat!
