Kilimanjaro Expedition Dispatch
June 28, 2008 – Summit Success on Top of Africa!
Hi, this is John from Mt. Kilimanjaro, checking in Saturday morning at 8:00 am, Ellyn and I just summited the top of Africa 19,359 feet! She looks great; she was strong all of the way. She followed Julious’s lead, and we made great time from our camp and now we are headed back to camp for a little refreshment and to head down the mountain. We have had a great time and the weather held up for us.
Hey there it’s Ellyn. We woke up at 1:20 this morning, and we saw the moon was just a sliver and it was orange on this side of the equator. We probably left about 2.5 hours after most of the climbers, but in no time we caught up to the precession of headlamps. It was a challenge, but it was doable. This is probably the closest to Everest I am ever coming. Hard to believe you can take such slow steps and still feel short of breath.
It is a great morning, and we are on our way down. We will send you more details later.
