Kilimanjaro Expedition Dispatches

March 19, 2008 – Summit Success, Sheerrraaa!

The summit of Kilimanjaro

If you didn’t already know the summit of Kilimanjaro is the highest point of Africa 19,341 feet.

Sherraaaa! This is Laura calling from summit day! We did it! YAHHHHH! All three of us and our guides; Julius, John and Frank. An awesome day. We spent an hour and a half up on the summit, it was phenomenal. Julius gave us the scoop on the research he has been doing over the last seven years on the glacier melting, it’s very interesting. He has been researching with a professor in Ohio.

I can’t even tell how good we all feel, and it has been a blessing, a gorgeous day.

Sherraaa! We summited the highest point in Africa, Kilimanjaro. What a beautiful day it is. We woke up at midnight and we could see the full moon. The sun has been shining since our summit and it has not been very cold. It has been an incredible adventure. We are ready to celebrate! We couldn’t have done it without our fabulous guides; Julius, John and Frank ~ we take our hats off to you. We owe you so much for helping us get up this whole adventure! Love to all, here’s Bob..

Hey everybody, we made it to the roof top of Africa! The ‘kili shuffle’ all of the way up. It was a great experience. The best thing to do is just hike and take it slow all of the way up the mountain. The glaciers up there were just breathtaking, indescribable. Can’t wait to share it in person with everyone at home.Glaciers near the summit of Kilimanjaro
