Aconcagua Expedition Dispatch

January 19, 2020 – 12:40 PM: The Entire Team is on the Summit of Aconcagua!

Osvi made a brief, very emotional call today: All six members of the team made it to the summit of Aconcagua together! What a day, what an experience. They began climbing at 4:15 AM. They reached the top ahead of most of the other teams climbing today; the slow, steady even pace is still working.. There was no much wind, but the challenges of the extreme high altitude of Aconcagua will always leave a mark on the mountaineers who make it to the top. Congratulations to Patrick, Shannon, Joe, Osvaldo, Sergio and Alex. The 2020 Bolivian, Canadian, American team is 100% successful with their summit attempt of Aconcagua.

It will still take hours for the descent back to high camp, probably 5 hours or more. We will update you when the team reaches their tents at "Berlin Camp".

5:00 PM: The team has returned to High Camp.

Osvi just called in to report. They are exhausted as they certainly should be after a climb like this. Those of you who follow all our Aconcagua climbs have noticed how dry it is on the mountain this year. This definitely makes the climbing harder - more loose rocks and unsure footing. But they made it! Congratulations.

Tomorrow they will head back tp Plaza de Mulas and get ready for the long walk out on Tuesday. Osvaldo usually has a lot of good summit day photos to share when he gets back to Base Camp so check in soon to see the guys on their remarkable summit day.
