Mendoza Wine Tour Dispatch
February 9, 2015 – Relaxing and Tasting Wine in Sunny Mendoza
Kristen and Lauren arrived in sunny Mendoza yesterday afternoon. They were met at the airport by Berg Adventures wine specialist Mariela who will be their guide for their trip.
Both the girls were so excited to finally have arrived in Mendoza. Kristen had contacted BAI's office about coming to Mendoza to do a wine tour over a year ago. She has been planning this for sometime and was so excited to have Lauren decide to join her just a few weeks ago.
Their first night in Mendoza was a special one to say the least. Mariela made reservations for them at Francis Mallman's restaurant 1884. The girls enjoyed a 4-hour dinning experience trying some of Mendoza's best wines and enjoying their fantastic steak and rib dishes.
The next morning was a lovely surprise for the girls as they met with Wally and Aconcagua team who had just come off the mountain from a very successful expedition. It was very special for Kristen to meet Wally because her dad Bob is a long time friend of Wally's and climbed with him many times. Kristen recalls all the stories she heard from her dad growing up about their adventures together and was so happy to be able to meet Wally in Mendoza. It was also nice for the girls to meet with the Aconcagua team and hear the stories of their awesome expedition.
After a great breakfast at the Hyatt the girls along with Mariela set off to get started on their main goal; to try some amazing wine and visit some of the Mendoza's finest vineyards.
They visited different types of vineyards from small family owned to larger operations. Their lunch included great food with an incredible backdrop on the Andes.
Everywhere the girls went Mariela has fantastic information on the vineyards in Mendoza. As she goes through her final exams to become a sommelier her knowledge and passion is an incredible addition to all the tours. Today she explained to the girls about the growing city of Mendoza and how as the city expands, the vineyards closest to the city start to disappear. Still there are over 1,000 vineyards in Mendoza which means the wine industry is not going to decline anytime soon. That is great news for all those wine lovers out there who want to come explore one of Mendoza's staple products!
After a long day of touring the Lujan de Cuyo valley and tasting some of it's finest wine the girls headed back to the Hyatt. After a quick swim in the pool and a relaxing dinner at the restaurant in the hotel they They finished their night off with a quick swim in the pool and a great dinner at the restaurant in the hotel.
What a fantastic start to their time in Mendoza!
