Aconcagua Expedition Dispatch
January 11, 2015 – Our Climb to Conway Rocks
This is Sunday January 11th. You know this is an expedition to climb Aconcagua. We are doing this expedition style. We are a team of twelve members. We are moving up the mountain in stages and we are stocking camps above us as we continue to sleep lower allowing a safe and enjoyable and well supplied climb of Aconcagua.
Now there is a lot to that, our five Bolivian began stocking the higher camps as soon as we arrived and they continue to do so.
Now today, our climbing team made their first ascent higher than Plaza de Mulas and we went to Conway rocks at 4,760m, that's about 450m above Plaza de Mulas.
There was a Bolivian carrying team that was of course carrying loads above us. But for us it was just a chance to go up higher into the mountain and see how the thinner air felt, test out our equipment further and enjoy what is still remarkably beautiful weather here on Aconcagua. I have never seen a season quite like this so far. It's really clear weather, very moderate winds and really inspiring mountain scenery all around us.
The team is doing great right now. We came back mid-afternoon and they are currently in the restaurant eating french fries. So it's going to be a relaxing afternoon after a successful trip up high.
We will continue to report to you. We have two more nights to sleep here at Plaza de Mulas and we will report to you as we continue to move our equipment and especially ourselves higher on the mountain.
