Aconcagua Expedition Dispatch
January 9, 2015 – Friends from Vancouver Arrive at Base Camp!
Well it's 6 PM and the entire group of pranksters from Vancouver that would be Chuck, Gord, Doug, Rob, Leah and Elaine have arrived here at Plaza de Mulas.
We left 10 hours and 15 minutes ago and wow did we have perfect weather today! It was unbelievably nice. There was virtually no wind and it was absolutely clear.
It got so warm that we had an issue with our snickers bars melting in our lunch boxes. The only way we could eat our snickers bars was bite off the corner of the wrapper and suck the good stuff from the inside. We didn't mind though it was nice weather and the team was performing great.
This was a long, long hike; there is no question. But in 10 hours and 15 minutes they made it to their Base Camp: Plaza de Mulas. We are really proud of them!
As you know we will be staying there for a few nights. Three or four before we think of moving any higher to sleep. While we are here we are going to be monitoring our bodies, getting used to our equipment and hiking up to check out our terrain a little bit and then returning to this elevation.
We will be enjoying life at one of the most intriguing Base Camps in the entire world: Plaza de Mulas on Aconcagua.
