Aconcagua Expedition Dispatch
January 8, 2015 – Our Hike to Plaza Francia
Yes, the wind blows on Aconcagua. Today is our acclimatization day from Confluencia Camp and we have been walking all day in winds of 20-30KM. I'm sure we have had gusts to 40.
The sky has been beautiful, absolutely clear. We hiked up to 12,900 feet above sea level. Which is a bit higher we were the other day when we drove through the pass between Chile and Argentina.
The team is doing great, we are learning about the mountain and dressing. Everybody is wearing their mountain parkas today. People are still wearing shorts but they are wearing their shorts and caps. We've got plenty on our upper body as we hike through the wind.
The team is doing great. We are hiking back to Confluencia now. Later we will go to the Park Services and get our first check up. As we slept high for one night and climbed to a high elevation we will go get checked out and see what the doctors think about how we are doing in our acclimatization.
Later today: we just finished our check up with the doctors; and again, the team did great; we are all well acclimatized and ready to hike tomorrow to Plaza de Mulas.
