June 3, 2014 – Ice Caves and Glacier Practice

Osvaldo called into the Berg Adventures office after the team arrived back to the Condoriri Base Camp at around 3 PM Bolivia time. He said the team had a fantastic day!

They began their day with an excellent meal cooked by Maria. They enjoyed breakfast quiches and delicious fresh fruit.

After breakfast the team went to off for a day of practicing glacier travel and learning more about alpine mountaineering techniques. Chris and Micheline reviewed certain skills like crossing crevasses, using ice axes and making anchors.

During their training they came across a beautiful ice cave where they stopped and enjoyed for some time. It was a fascinating place to stop for a rest.

Osvaldo reports that the weather is amazing. It has been very stable, with clear skies and barely any wind.

Tomorrow the team will wake up nice and early to begin their attempt to reach the summit of Pequeno Alpamayo. He says both the girls are very strong and are looking forward to taking on this challenge tomorrow. They will keep us posted tomorrow as they make their way up the 17,618ft/5,370m high mountain.
