Carstensz Pyramid Expedition Dispatches

March 10, 2014 – The Team Arrives at Base Camp

Hey this is Brent calling on Carstensz trip day 5. It was another outstanding day! We were able to gain about 2,800 feet up to New Zealand’s Pass and then drop another 800 or so to get to Base Camp. It was absolutely spectacular trekking today, it was world class! We left our last camp and we were near the rolling grassland marsh kind of funky Dr. Sues like trees then we climbed up and got into the sort of the heart of the Carstensz Pyramid area with this limestone surrounding us. It is really reminiscent of the trek around the Dolomites.

Our camp is beautiful, just pitched here on a lake. Everyone is doing well. It rained this morning and it is just beginning to clear up. We are looking forward to our rest day tomorrow since we’ve been hitting it hard non-stop for the last 5 days. And then hopefully the next day we will make our summit attempt.

Everyone is doing well. We are all a little tired up here at 14,000 feet but everything is good!

Bye for now!
