Carstensz Pyramid Expedition Dispatches

March 7, 2014 – Making Great Progress Through Difficult Jungle Terrain

Day two on the expedition was just as spectacular as the day before! Just like day one it was spent trekking through the rainforest. We trekked for about 10 hours and it was quite difficult movement. We were going under and around tree roots, under logs, across rivers and through rivers, rock to rock over rivers. It was 10 hours of constant movement. There were things constantly getting into your face. But everything around us is so incredible. The flora and fauna are beautiful and the bird life is amazing!

We came into camp after we gained about 2,000 feet. We camped at about 10,200 feet. It was really an amazing journey for our team today. The team did extremely well. Everyone was moving in good fashion over terrain that was anything but easy.

Everyone was fed and like I said the in the last dispatch the food was excellent! We couldn’t be happier with what these guys are whipping up.

Anyways tomorrow should be about a 6 or 7 hour day up to the meadows. Everything is good on the Carstensz Pyramid expedition!

Crossing rivers are always an exciting part of the trek to base camp

Today was a day of constant movement. Though challenging, the changing landscapes kept us excited to keep moving!

It is no question now why rain boots are essential for a Carstensz Pyramid climb!
