October 22, 2011 – Pay off day! Everest Base Camp

After yesterday's snowstorm we awoke to a perfect clear skies and great views for our walk to Base Camp.  We started our walk at 8:45 am.

The climb along the glacial moraine was demanding and required our full attention.

The view ahead to base camp was spectacular.

It was thrilling to see Changtse,  the north summit of Everest, over the Lho La on the Tibet side of the mountain, not that far from us at all.

Midway on our walk up the glacier our view of the summit of Everest itself was spectacular.

Everest Base Camp lies about one mile up the glacier past the 'Everest Base Camp Sign' where most trekkers stop.
